I have played around with Gouache a little bit before, but they were student grade and I didn't really take it seriously. Recently I took the plunge and decided to splurge on some artist quality gouache paints.
So I headed to my local Blick Art Materials (my favorite place to be) and purchased a few colors that appealed to me. I am absolutely in love with them! I purchased a few tubes of Windsor and Newtons Designer Gouache and a few tubs of Holbein Artists Gouache and I love them both. Paying more for artist quality gouache makes all the difference in your experience.
Here are a few examples of my first paintings using the gouache.
I am mostly an ink and paper type of gal. My designing process is typically to draw motifs in ink and then bring them into Illustrator and apply colors and make patterns from them. So painting is a bit out of my element. With the exceptions of the acrylic I have been using to make my abstract paintings.
I have always admired beautifully painted pieces and wished it was something I could incorporate into my designs so I decided to give it a go. I have also always wanted to document my process with videos. Videos and pictures are a great way to be able to track you progress and see growth in you work.
So I took the leap and started a YouTube channel and I posted my first video. Its a speed painting I created with gouache. The recording and editing process is pretty new for me so I am sure I will get better with time. I want this channel to be a space where I share my creative experiences, learn and document my process.
