Fancy Florals

If you follow me on Instagram you know I have been busy getting ready for Surtex.  That means there are lots of new patterns and designs to be made.  Fellow Dot & Flow member Natalie Williamson has created this awesome challenge, Folio Focus, to help artist develop a great portfolio in the weeks leading up to Surtex.  It's a great challenge even if you aren't planning on exhibiting at Surtex this year. We are now on week 3 but there is still time to join the fun, read more about it here.

I know I'm a bit late but I just wanted to share my week 1 progress.  After a little brainstorming and some endless strolling through Pinterest.  I start drawing my flower motifs.  Some I use and some I don't. I just try to draw as many as possible.

I was inspired by the colors in this bouquet of flowers I found on Pinterest.  I used the Adobe Capture App to grab the colors from the photo.  This app is great because it sends them right to my creative cloud and I can access them instantly in Illustrator and photoshop.

I then scanned my flower motifs into Illustrator and turned them into vectors. I then play with them a bit and turn them into fun patterns.  This one collection has five different patterns for now.  I would like to have about 6-8 so I may create a few more before I am completely done.

Here's a peek at a few patterns from my fancy floral collection.  If you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen them.

Week 2 topic is Sweet Greeting followed by Geometrics.  I am a bit behind but you can follow me on Instagram to see my progress. While your there check out the #foliofocus tag, there is lots of great work there.
